Basic Hygiene Fights Acne

Dirt does not cause acne. That is one of the very basic concepts that most acne sufferers need to accept. Keeping the face clean will help to make acne outbreaks happen less frequently and be less severe when they do happen but the fact that your face gets dirty is not the cause of acne.

Since keeping the face clean is especially important for those who struggle with acne, let's take a look at a few cleansing tips that you should follow in order to ensure that you are properly cleaning your face and giving your skin the best chance against acne.

Believe it or not... wash your hands first. This really shouldn't be surprising. Your hands are about to come in contact with your face. So, scrub your hands before you do anything... make sure the nails are clean as well.

Be sure to firmly secure away from your face. You don't want the oil from your hair able to touch your face as you are cleansing as this will defeat the purpose. Keep your hair pulled back.

Using warm water (not hot) to apply your cleansing material. If you are using a packaged cleansing product, be sure to follow the directions to the tee; never using more or less of the product than is directed.

Do not use a wash cloth when cleansing your face. Instead, gently massage the cleanser into your face using a gentle circular motion with your finger tips. Paying particular attention to any stubborn areas, work your way all the way up to your hairline. Do not use any type of a hard scrubbing technique as this is counterproductive.

Once completed, be sure to rinse off your face very thoroughly. You don't want to leave any traces of the cleanser on your face. Use warm water and gently splash it around your face to accomplish this.

To dry off your face you will want to use a gentle patting action with a clean, soft towel. Don't rub your face to dry it and never use the same towel twice between washings.

Even after you have patted down your face with the clean towel, you'll still want to let your face completely air dry before you apply any acne medications or even moisturizers. So, wait about 15 minutes before doing so.

Just by following these simple tips as a part of your cleaning routine you will be able to more effectively win the battle against acne.
